The infamous Road to Hana is about a 46 mile trip beginning at the quaint north shore village of Pa'ia and winding its way along the rugged coastline of Maui. Along the way you'll pass sugar and pineapple fields, bamboo forests, roadside waterfalls and spectacular coastal scenery. This often narrow, always windy (as in twisty, not breezy - but sometimes it's that too!) road has 600 curves and 59 one lane bridges. With so much to see and do along the way, you'll want to have a voice of experience along for the ride. Our automated, hands-free audio tour will inform you of all the interesting attractions as you approach them so you can enjoy the ride safely without missing any of the good stuff.
Check for road closures before you leave. Due to heavy rain or rockslides, portions of the road are occasionally closed to traffic. Call (808) 986-1200 to ensure the road is open.
Take your time! The road to Hana is all about the journey, not the destination. Drive slowly and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you.
Stay on the trails. For your own safety, be sure you don't wander to far off the beaten path. This will also keep you from trespassing onto private property.
Don't forget the bug spray!
Fill the tank. A trip to Hana will typically take at least 3/4 of a tank of gas. You'll find gas for sale in Hana, but it is definitely at a premium.
Remember this isn't Disneyland. Be mindful of nature and the risks inherent in it. So don't swim at the top of a waterfall, don't turn your back to the ocean, and remain aware of your surroundings.
